I think I recently sort of had “the talk” with Squirrelly, Jr. Over IM because we’re progressive that way at the Squirrel Nest.

Teh Boy: “Karen was doing something weird when I went out to check for eggs.”

Mama Squirrel: “Oh?”

Teh Boy: “He was pecking Della on the back of the head. Then he climbed on her back.”

A pause of stunned silence. I really wasn’t sure what to type.

Mama Squirrel: “It’s ok. He’s not hurting her.”

Waiting in dread, hoping this conversation wouldn’t happen. No such luck.

Teh Boy: “But why is he doing that?”

Another long pause. One of those “I don’t want to say this” pauses.

Mama Squirrel: “Well, that’s just chicken sex.”

It was Teh Boy’s turn to pause, and he did. And then he replied.

Teh Boy: “Awkward.”

I’ve been wondering about the connotations of that “awkward” ever since. What did he mean by that? Was he saying that this was an awkward conversation? Or did he maybe mean that it was an awkward situation in general? Or did my little baby mean that it seemed like an awkward position? I’m not going to ask. I don’t want to know.

I think that there should definitely be an “all of the above” for the connotations of that awkward. I know that after I read the scenario and subsequent questions, my answer was definitely all of the above.

Look on the bright side. If he thought the position was awkward, he may be scared to death of sex for many many years. 😉
