Doing this thing right

Four AcornsI was reading the excellent Becks n Posh and saw yet another great San Francisco restaurant that I wished we would have time to try. The restaurant is very close to some of the tourist trap spots we’ll be hitting even. Unfortunately, we will only have time for two breakfasts that morning, and we have already picked out those spots. Oh well, maybe next time.

After I accepted that I would not be able to eat in every restaurant in the bay area, something else hit me. As helpful as I hope our restaurant opinions will be, they’re no good if no one can find the place. Thus far, I haven’t posted a single address or telephone number. Good grief. We have to at least add the address.

We also decided to try to summarize our impressions of a place with a system. Now star systems are all well and good. I suppose the number of stars given to a restaurant by a critic summarizes how brightly the restaurant shines, quite nice, but not our style. Thus I give you the acorn.

Essentially the acorn symbolizes just how nuts you would have to be not to eat at the place reviewed. Four acorns means you would have to be completely nuts to miss a chance for a meal. No acorns means we were nuts to try eating there in the first place, but at least now you know and you can avoid the experience.

We will start the new system with Mama’s upcoming review of Salsa. I will also be adding location and phone info and acorns to our earlier reviews. We may make all this rambling useful after all.

Should have stopped with the Salsa
