Tart Wars

Long ago… Well, really, just yesterday. In a galaxy far, far away… Well, again, really, not a galaxy so much as a city by the bay. There was a blogger. A blogger of sparkling charm and wit. A blogger whom you could dislike only out of jealousy because she lives and writes in one of the best food cities in the world, San Francisco.

Mama Squirrel found Becks n Posh because we are planning on visiting that fair city. Sam‘s blog has been really useful in helping us decide on the best places to go during the limited time of our visit. Sam says she understands our plight bewcause she has to make the same decisions, but she can always pick one place today and go to the other place next week. We get to pick one place then have Airtran peanuts instead of the other place. I am less than sympathetic. Whoops, see what I mean about jealousy?

To get back to our story of not so long ago in a city by the bay, a few weeks ago, Mama and I decided to create a detailed inventory of our pantry and refrigerator. We filled a few pages of a notebooks with an assortment of odds and ends that left us shaking our heads. How had we managed to accumulate all of this? And how on earth were we going to put it all to use? Later, while surfing the web, what should I find but that Sam had done the very same thing and with a thoroughness that was even greater than our scary serious effort.

Now last night, Mama declares that she is going to make a peach tart to use up our extra mother-in-law, non-cheating peaches. I am instantly salivating at her description of a blind-baked crust with layers of jam then custard then peaches. After wiping my chin, I posted the Squad’s latest then went to see what other foodie folks had to say. Sure enough, Sam had just baked scrumptious looking Bakewell Tarts.

Clearly Sam has an advantage over me. She is using her ESB. Yep, her extra sensory blogging. (Or is it my extra silly babbling?) However it goes, since Sam and Mama both say it, this must be the time for tarts. Mama is going to make hers this weekend, so watch this space for photos and her recipe.
