Thanks, Karen

While Martha Foose was in town promoting her new book, Screen Doors and Sweet Tea, Karen Blockman Carrier hosted a meet and greet at her Cooper-Young restaurant, The Beauty Shop.

Chef Karen fed us incredible deviled eggs and fried okra, followed by guacamole and roasted tomato salsa. We also had more than a few of Martha’s cantaloupe daiquiris. We topped off the daiquiris with a dish of mussels and pork confit with chorizo, shallots, and sinful amounts of butter.

Karen is a delightful host. We have met her before at the opening of her restaurant Cielo in Victorian Village and at the Viking cooking school where she led a class on cooking for an informal Passover meal.

She is also a dynamo and successful business owner. In addition to Cielo and Beauty Shop, Karen owns Do Sushi Bar next door to Beauty Shop, Memphis landmark Automatic Slims downtown, and the catering company Another Roadside Attraction.

We have always enjoyed Karen’s restaurants. We plan to be back to them soon.
