First my ungrateful (but aptly named) cat, B. L. ZeBubba, hacks my blog. Now Mama Squirrel and Squirrelly, Jr., have abandoned me here with Bubba. Oh sure, I have Willa the other cat and Ursula the dog, but they’re not much protection.
So here I am all alone in this big old house with a cat who just might eat me in my sleep if his bowl drops below half full. I’m getting up in the morning and going to work and coming home in the evening to cook for one, not counting the extra bits Bubba begs for.
And where are Mama and Jr.? Well, Jr. is enjoying the last of his summer vacation. And Mama is getting up and going to work every morning too. The only real difference is that they’re doing it on Maui.
Mama is slaving away at the Grand Wailea Resort, working on a network install. Admittedly, the work is off to a rough start, but Mama and Jr. are still going back to an exceptionally comfortable room with an ocean view every night.
Unfortunately I can’t provide much of a report on the food yet. Hopefully soon I will be able to get a full report from them. I do know that after a long flight their first meal was room service Hawaiian pizza with Canadian bacon and pineapple. Jr. says that the crust was excellent. They could barely find words for the beautifully fresh pineapple.
Honestly, I am as excited about them being there as they are. We miss each other, but Mama is having a good time. For Jr. this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. The resort is so big and beautiful and safe, he has essentially become one of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, roaming freely in his tropical paradise.
I can’t wait to hear more of their adventures culinary and otherwise. They promise to blog about their meals — the gourmet cooking, the fresh ingredients, the Spam. Teh boy already has a new recipe in mind for when he get home — crawcrabsterfish. This is going to be interesting — and scary.
